Cut HVAC power at breaker
Turn off the furnace and AC breakers at the main panel. Verify thermostat display is dead.

Photograph existing wiring
Remove the old thermostat faceplate. Take a clear photo of every wire and the terminal it's connected to (R, C, W, Y, G, etc.). This photo is your safety net.

Label and disconnect wires
Apply the included sticker labels to each wire matching its terminal letter. Loosen terminal screws and pull wires free.

Mount new base plate
Use the level to position the new base. Mark and drill holes, insert anchors, screw the plate flush to the wall.

Connect wires to new terminals
Push each labeled wire into the matching terminal on the new thermostat. If no C-wire exists and the model needs one, install the C-wire adapter at the furnace control board per its instructions.

Snap on display and restore power
Click the display onto the base. Flip breakers back on. The thermostat will boot up.

Configure via app
Follow the app's setup wizard: WiFi connect, system type (gas/electric, heat-only or HVAC), schedule. Run a heat and cool test cycle.
Duration: 20 min
Old houses with a 2-wire system or no C-wire may need a fly-back wire pulled from the furnace — that's a pro job.
